How to shoot a good score here at the Links.
This is the fifteenth of 18
issues that will take you on a tour of how to shoot a good score here at the Links. The
fifteenth hole is a long par 3 that shoots you over the cattails of
Lake Fork a couple of
times. I consider this our signature hole because you get a little bit of everything the
Links at Lands End has to offer such as the lake, cattails, lily pads, boat houses,
wind, and a beautiful golf hole. The tee shot on #15 is the most demanding shot on the
golf course. Lake
Fork runs in front of the green, over the green and all down the left
side. If you hit the left fringe the ball will end up in the Lake because the green slopes
to the left. On the right side there is a huge bunker and a couple of deep roughed mounds.
In summary, if you miss the green, a par is almost impossible. To add to the fun the green
is 150 feet from front to back and only 40 feet from left to right. Finally, there is
usually a 15-20 mile an hour wind blowing off the lake from left to right. I suggest
taking a club that will get you to the front right of the green which means you are
subtracting 20 yards from what the yardage says. Not a bad shot you are just short and the
wind blew it a little right. You missed the green; however, this is the best place to try
and get it up and down from. With the pin towards the back of the green use a low lofted
club to run the shot back to the hole. Not bad you left yourself a 15 foot putt for par
and just missed your par putt. Again no big numbers, which is the key to a good round.
Ill see you next on the long par 4 sixteenth hole at 7 over par.
