How to shoot a good score here at the Links.
The sixteenth hole is one of the best and toughest par 4s that you will ever play.
In my opinion this is one of our signature holes since the green juts out into
Lake Fork.
This dogleg left par 4 is narrow off the tee and usually into the wind or has a left to
right wind. When a hole dog legs against a prevailing wind it is usually a half shot
tougher and this hole is no exception. Now that I have scared you to death lets go
make a solid 5 and move on to #17. Off the tee you want to favor the right side of the
fairway, left is jail. Take a club, maybe a 3-wood that will go fairly straight and so you
do not hit it through the fairway if you aim down the right side. Not bad it leaked a
little and the wind blew it right so you ended up in the right trees. Now do not be a
hero, you have 200 yards off of hard pan. Do not hit a shot that is impossible. Just take
your licks and punch a 6-iron down there to 100 yards from the green. Okay pick a club
that will get you to the middle of the green and let it rip. This green is much easier to
hit from 100 yards than 200 yards off of hard pan and we kept the water out of play. You
knocked it up there to 25 feet. Again line it up and really concentrate on the distance
you are going to hit the putt. Well you blew it by 5 feet but you lined it up, kept your
head still and knocked it in the back of the hole for a bogey 5. Nice job, no big number.
Next the par 4 seventeenth hole at 8 over par. |
