How to shoot a good score on hole#17.
The eighteenth hole is a long, tight par 5
that doglegs a little bit left. This hole finally guides you away from the lake after
playing 13 consecutive holes on the shores of Lake Fork. I feel like this is a spectacular
finishing hole based on the year of tournaments. I have seen anywhere from an eagle three
to 12s,14s, etc. In my opinion that is what a finishing hole should be, a
player can be aggressive and if the player executes there is a reward, if not they could
blow their chances. If the player is conservative they might make a bogey and the
aggressive player could catch the conservative player. I also believe this is a pretty
finishing hole with two lakes, the cattails, and the two water features, one at the tee
and one at the green.
Now lets talk strategy. The tee shot is crucial here with two ponds and a creek on
the left and out of bounds on the right. I suggest using a long iron or fairway wood to
just get one in play. Not bad it faded a little but you stayed in the right rough. Now the
second shot is not as hard as people make it. Most people try to cut over the lake on the
left and get it down there to 80-100 yards. All you need to do is hit a mid-iron right at
the 150 pole. KEEP it down the right side, as long as you do not hit too much club you
will have a nice angle into this green. Good shot you hit it a little right and have 130
yards left to the green. Now just take a club that will get you on the correct level of
this two-tiered green. Great, you have a 30-footer for birdie. One last time, take your
time to pick your line and than really focus on your distance. Great putt, your distance
control finally paid off and you made a long one to finish off your round with a 7 over
par 78. Birdie on the last hole will keep you coming back! The next few times you come
back make sure you follow these course management tips and I believe your handicap will
drop dramatically.
Good Luck! |
