How
to shoot a good score on #3 hole.
The third hole is a long, tough par 4 that usually plays into the prevailing wind. The
hole plays long so you almost have to a hit driver. The key is to NOT miss left. Pick out
a target on the right side of the fairway and rip it. Well you missed it into the right
woods but least you have a shot. Do not try to do anything spectacular here, remember it
is still early in the round and we want to avoid the big number. Take a 5-iron and try to
knock it down there towards the right front of the green. From there you will have a lot
of green to work with to bump and run your third shot. You do not want to have to pitch
over the front left bunker because the green is elevated and firm. Your third shot is
about a 60 foot chip. Take a less lofted club such as a 7 or 8-iron and take a small swing
so the ball just flies a couple feet on to the green and rolls the rest of the way. Not
bad you left yourself a 8 footer for par and just misread it for a bogey 5. Not exactly
the prettiest hole you ever played; however, you did not ruin your round early by trying
to be a hero. We move to the short par 4 fourth hole at 2 over par.
