How
to shoot a good score on #9 Hole.
This is
the ninth of 18 issues that will take you on a tour of how to shoot a good score here at
the Links. The ninth hole is another great example for future architects on how to
design a demanding course at a decent length to combat the advances in technology. The
eighth and ninth are two great holes in a row. The hole is 380 yards from the tips. You
need to get as close to the green off the tee as possible because the severity of the
slopes around the green will kick you into Lake Fork every time if you miss the green with
your second shot. I suggest you hit something that will leave you about 120 yards for your
second shot. Aim it right at the fairway bunker and rip it. Nice shot! The second shot
here is crucial Do NOT even look at the pin! Focus on the middle of the green and choose a
club that will put you right dead in the middle. If you are between clubs go with the more
lofted one. If you miss the green it has to be short. Right, left, or long will feed the
bass. Not bad, you ended up on the front right of the green A perfect miss. You have a
long 50 footer for birdie. Pick out your line, and again, really concentrate on your
speed. Not bad, a 3 footer left. Line that up, be confident, and knock it in for par. Nice
hole, we make the turn with a 4 over par 40 on the front side. |
